A screenshot — no EXIF ever existed
FIND A PHOTO'S LOCATI0N WITHOUT EXIF — FREE, NO SIGN-UP
You checked the file and got "No GPS data found." That's normal — Instagram, WhatsApp and screenshots strip EXIF, or never had it.
No EXIF? No problem — that's the point. Photos auto-delete within 24 hours, never used for training.

You checked the file and got "No GPS data found." That's normal — Instagram, WhatsApp and screenshots strip EXIF, or never had it. But the locati0n evidence isn't gone. The AI reads what's in the frame instead: signs, architecture, road markings, terrain. We still check the file's remaining metadata first — free, in your browser, nothing uploads for that — then show you the most likely places with the reasoning behind each. No account, up to 2 free analyses a day, 5 a week.
Zero-metadata proof
Three real photos that arrived with no EXIF at all — stripped by an app, or born as screenshots — and what the pixels revealed anyway. One of them we couldn't fully solve. We show you that one too.
Stripped by WhatsApp — solved from the pixels
GPS ✗ stripped · Date taken ✓ Jun 2021 · Device ✓ iPhone 12 · Trace ⚠ filename pattern suggests WhatsApp

Every case links to the full analysis — the file report, the clues, the map. Zero-metadata photos are the point of this page; when evidence is thin, the result says so.
What replaces each field
When a photo has no EXIF data, its locati0n can still be estimated by reading visual clues in the image itself — signs, architecture, road markings, vegetation and terrain — instead of file metadata. The swap, field by field:
| The field you lost | The visual evidence that replaces it |
|---|---|
| GPS coordinates | Signs, building style, driving side, road markings, terrain — each clue narrows the world. |
| Date & time taken | Shadow direction, vegetation season, car models, storefront branding. |
| Camera & device | Grain, aspect ratio and lens distortion — screenshot, scan, or original. |
| Altitude | Horizon lines, slope and vegetation zones — mountains give themselves away. |
The difference with no EXIF: visual evidence needs interpreting. So every answer comes as ranked candidates with a confidence level — never false certainty. Try it on your photo ↑
Diagnose the file you have
It depends entirely on how the photo reached you. Public feeds strip locati0n data; files sent "as document," emailed or AirDropped keep GPS intact — which is why metadata is checked first, free, before any AI runs. Find your case:
| Where it came from | GPS survives? | Your move |
|---|---|---|
| Saved from Instagram / Facebook / X / TikTok / Reddit | ✗ Stripped on upload | AI clue reading — upload above ↑ |
| WhatsApp — sent as photo (default) | ✗ Stripped (~9 in 10) | Upload above ↑ |
| WhatsApp / Telegram — sent as file | ✓ Intact | Check the file first — 10 sec ↑ |
| Email / AirDrop / Drive / Dropbox | ✓ Intact | Check the file first ↑ |
| iMessage | ✓ Usually intact | Check the file first ↑ |
| Signal | ✗ Always stripped | Upload above ↑ |
| Discord | ⚠ Depends (inline vs attachment) | Check first, then AI ↑ |
| A screenshot (any platform) | ✗ Never existed | Upload above ↑ — screenshots work |
Tip: if the sender can re-send the photo "as a file" or by email, the original often still carries the exact GPS point — and that beats any AI estimate. Verified July 2026 · re-tested quarterly.
How the AI narrows the world
Finding a photo locati0n without EXIF is not about hunting copies online. The model does not need your photo posted anywhere. It reads road markings, architectural period, vegetation and shadow angle — each clue drops impossible regions until a short list remains.
Yellow plates can point toward the EU or China. Left-hand traffic drops China. Continents narrow with zero metadata and no landmark required.
Brick terraces and sash windows pull toward the UK; Venetian balconies plus Greek shop script pull toward the Aegean. Style filters regions — it is not a street address by itself.
Local street names and shop signs are high-reliability. Global brand slogans are weak. If the first pass stays country-level only, crop to the sign and re-run.
Even with no GPS data, a capture time or device can bracket season. The browser-side check feeds whatever survived to the AI — free, before upload.
| Standard | Reliability |
|---|---|
| Readable local text (street / shop / transit) | High — searchable and falsifiable |
| Road design, bollards, plate format, driving side | Medium–high — strong country filters |
| Language, weather, global brands alone | Weak — easy to over-read with no GPS |
With no EXIF, confidence should come from independent agreement — text plus roads plus architecture plus a map check — not from a single flashy guess. Upload and get ranked candidates ↑
When GPS is gone — the full path
When there is no GPS data found in the file, use this order: preserve the best copy, confirm what is left, read the scene, then try to disprove the candidate on Street View.
Ask the sender to re-send as a file or by email when possible. A WhatsApp forward may be several compressions away — tiny sign text matters for zero-metadata cases.
No GPS is not the same as an empty file. Capture time and device can still narrow the scene. Upload above — the check runs in your browser first.
If there is still no GPS inside, AI ranks places from signs, architecture, road markings, vegetation and terrain — with confidence and reasoning, not a fake-certain pin.
Open the top candidate in Street View. Compare road bend, shop spacing, mountain line. Zero metadata means the map check is your ground truth — reject contradictions, or crop to the strongest clue and re-run.
Zero-metadata accuracy
Every number here is for photos with no GPS data at all — zero metadata, pixels only. Country and city hit rates ship with the public methodology once Gate A locks. Thin evidence (indoor close-ups, plain nature, heavy filters, night portraits) gets "not enough evidence," not a bluff. When GPS survives in the file, the AI never runs: you get the exact spot, labeled as file data.
Pick the fastest path
No EXIF left in the file? You still have four paths. Start with the cheapest falsifiable step; escalate only when the previous one stalls.
Re-check the metadata, every field
Reverse image search (Lens, TinEye)
Ask the humans (r/whereisthis)
AI clue reading (this page)
For the hardest no-EXIF photos, the humans still win — that's why low-confidence results hand you a ready-to-post r/whereisthis template instead of pretending.

Yes — in most outdoor photos the evidence is in the image, not the file. The AI reads signs, architecture, road markings, vegetation and terrain, and returns ranked places with confidence. A street with signage beats an empty beach.
Usually Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, or WhatsApp's default photo mode stripped it; or it's a screenshot that never had camera data; or locati0n services were off. The platform table above shows when GPS data survives.
Upload it here — the file is read first, in your browser, before any AI runs. If GPS is present you get the exact spot instantly, labeled as file data. For every field, use the free in-browser metadata tool linked below.
In default photo mode, yes — roughly nine times out of ten. Sent "as a document," GPS often stays intact. Telegram is similar. Ask the sender to re-send as a file or by email when you can.
Yes. Screenshots never contain EXIF, so metadata tools show nothing by design — but visual clues remain. For Instagram or TikTok screenshots, the dedicated tool crops captions and UI first.
On our public test set — all photos with zero GPS — country and city hit rates publish with the methodology. Hard cases get "not enough evidence" instead of a guess. Full numbers update monthly.
No. Those engines look for copies online. This page estimates locati0n from the pixels, so WhatsApp forwards and screenshots still work when match engines return nothing.
Common when you find a photo locati0n without EXIF on a thin outdoor frame. Crop to a sign, road marking, or coastline, add a hint, and re-run. Still broad? Use the human-community template instead of forcing a street.
Yes. Pause on a clear outdoor frame, save it, and upload. Zero metadata is normal for video exports — treated like other no-EXIF photos.
Treat it as a hypothesis. On Street View, hunt contradictions: wrong driving side, missing tram wires, reversed mountain line. With no GPS data to cross-check, several agreeing clues beat one confident pin.
The answer is free, no account: places, confidence, reasoning, file report, map link. Paying adds exact pin, Street View proof and a keepable report — $3.99 once, or from $0.10 with Plus ($59.99/year). Photos auto-delete in 24h; the metadata check never leaves your browser.
